New Car: 2009 Mercedes SL63 AMG IWC
Here's a new Mercedes to watch out for. Based on the scorching SL63 AMG range-topper, it's a joint venture between the German giant and famous Swiss watchmaker IWC.
Just 200 examples of the Edition IWC will be made, each getting an exclusive Kashmir white paint finish. Elsewhere the newcomer is fitted with the same matte-finish carbon fibre bodykit as the standard car, which includes a deeper front bumper, side skirts and prominent F1-style diffuser at the rear.
Inside, you'll find Tobago Brown Nappa leather upholstery covering the seats, door trims, dashboard and steering wheel. Look closer and you'll clock the discreet IWC logo on the carbon-finish centre console.
Underneath the eye-catching exterior hides the SL63's 517bhp 6.3-litre V8, which is connected to a seven-speed semi-auto transmission. Performance is blistering, with the sprint from standstill to 60mph taking 4.6 seconds.
Like the AMG it's based on, the IWC gets hi-tech Active Body Control suspension, powerful composite brakes and chunky 19-inch alloy wheels. The car's handling is further improved by a limited-slip differential.
Finally, when owners pick-up their new motor, they will also be presented with a special 'Grosser Ingenieur' (Great Engineer) wrist watch from IWC.
No prices have yet been revealed, but the first examples of this limited edition will hit showrooms in November.
