It’s been 35 years since the Golf GTI was introduced and what better way to celebrate than with a more aggressive, more powerful special edition of the current car.
Called the Edition 35, the newcomer gets a subtly redesigned front bumper, a new alloy wheel design unique to this model, contrasting black door mirrors and ‘35’ badging on the door sills.
The interior also gets a few tweaks, with a golf-ball gear-lever and ‘35’ stitched into each of the part-leather sports seats.
Underneath the bonnet, VW has tweaked the 2.0-litre turbocharged engine to produce an additional 25bhp over the standard car, taking the total power output to 232bhp.
There are no official details on improvements to performance but expect to see a few tenths of a second shaved of the standard car’s 6.9 seconds 0-62mph time.
The new model will be unveiled at the Worthersee tuning festival in June and will go on sale in the UK towards the end of the year. Expect to pay a premium over the standard car’s £25,060 price-tag.For more details click here.
