Hot on the heels of the fresh-faced VW Golf Mk VI comes the next-generation version of its bigger brother – the Golf Plus.
These exclusive official pictures reveal just how the new car will look when it makes its world debut at the Bologna Motor Show in Italy this week.
The previous Plus wasn’t a big success, with only 25,111 finding homes in the UK. The standard hatch sold 307,862 in the same period, meaning the Plus fell well short of reaching VW’s target of 25 per cent of all Golf sales.
This time, the Plus is aiming to tempt buyers with a sportier look than its predecessor, thanks to narrower headlamps – which now pack daytime running lights – and a lower profile and redesigned roof rails. The interior will be carried over from the hatch, with high-quality materials, white backlit instruments and brushed chrome surrounds. Buyers can now also opt for VW’s self-park system.
The latest VW engines are on offer, including the 1.4 TSI 122bhp petrol unit, which achieves 44.8mpg. All the diesels are now common-rail units, with improved economy and performance. Prices and trim levels will be announced by the company when the Plus is launched next spring. For more details click here.
